When her claims that a murder is about to take place prove true, cynical town sheriff Matt Dunbar grudgingly accepts her help. Cassie knows that local officials will be skeptical of her abilities, particularly since her aunt, also a psychic, was considered the town eccentric. Ryan's Bluff seems like the perfect hideaway, but it is not long before Cassie is plagued by visions once again. Her psychic ability to connect with the minds of killers and to see through their eyes has allowed Cassie to save lives, while all but destroying her own. Having retreated to an isolated home left to her by an aunt she never met, Cassie thinks she may have found peace at last. Even though psychic Cassie Neill has traveled more than 3,000 miles away from Los Angeles, she finds that she cannot escape her destiny, any more than victims can escape the serial killer stalking the small town of Ryan's Bluff, N.C. ![]() ![]() Still, I enjoyed the book a lot in spite of that. I can only stuff so much stuff into my brain, I guess. I’m not proud of this knowledge gap, but I admit that it’s there. You have people from Germany, Japan, China, and Russia all racing across the country here, with various political entanglements and double-crossing and surprising alliances. So I have to admit up front that I don’t have the background to follow everything in this story, or to know who the political and military enemies and allies are. ![]() By the time I went to college, I majored in American History and didn’t look much at Asia. It’s not the area that gets taught that much in American schools, at least as I was growing up. There’s a blank spot in my education for this historical period and geography. With Chernow getting much praise for his Alexander Hamilton and then his Grant I thought to stick my feet into the older end and see what all the fuss was about. This book had been recommended to me from various sources as one of THE biographies to read, along with Robert Caro’s book Power Broker (which has yet to leave the dent it made on my desk when I dropped it there). My first taste of his writing was in Titan: The Life of John D. He is famed for his deep dives into his subject, digging up facts that other authors, sometimes many other authors, missed or ignored. Ron Chernow is one of today’s great biographers. LAMP/Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians ![]() ![]() ![]() If you are having trouble finding the link to add a new thread, try this. Of all the books in the series though, this one is probably my favorite and probably the longest. The difference are subtle but basically this book has more sex than a traditional young adult novel would. I would say this book is more of a new adult book rather than a young adult novel. Her Throne of Glass series appeals to me quite a bit so I am excited to read more from this author. ![]() ![]() I have enjoyed the series thus far (I am currently through book 3) and I am eager to read more books by Sarah J Maas. If you haven’t read this series yet, I will say I thought it was a worthwhile read. So if you don’t want my review to spoil anything, then I would suggest to stop reading after the next few paragraphs. I will try to keep this review mostly spoiler free but this series must absolutely be read in order and since the second book is a continuation of the first, there will be some spoilers going forward. I basically finished the first book and immediately went on to this one with out any really break in between. After devouring the first book, naturally I moved onto the second one. ![]() |
